Getting from There to Here

I am a son, brother, father, uncle and friend. I was born X years ago in Stamford Connecticut to a first generation family with an older sister and brother. My parents were actively involved in business together. My sister married early on and I had nieces and nephews almost before I could spell the words.

I played High School football and was actively involved in local theater during my school years. My interest in mathematics led me to Drake University eventually majoring in Statistics and Market Research.

I met my wife-to-be at Drake and eventually returned east to join the "family business". I have a daughter now older than I care to mention who is a true delight. She hopes to become the star of the family actively pursuing performing possibilities while working in a home for troubled high school students.

For many years, I have enjoyed outdoor, adventure activities. I have run four New York Marathons, rafted and canoed rapids from Maine to Idaho, biked hill races in the Berkshires, and taught Yoga. The last five years have been much more sedentary and I am slowly returning to a more active lifestyle.

Animals, especially dogs, have been an important part of my life. I have had bearded collies and the current love of my life is Shelby, a Wheaton Terrier/Australian Shepard mix. She is quite the character and is forever bringing a smile to my lips and even a tear to my eye.

I came to Martha's Vineyard 14 years ago, fell in love with the island, and never left. Please come to visit and let me show you the Island I love.

Zoning Laws >Remodeling and Permits Obtaining the proper permits when remodeling can be a critical element in the process. Many homeowners are unaware of the local building codes and zoning laws governing renovations. Disregarding these laws may result in fines, and in some cases you may even be asked to demolish the work that has been done. When remodeling you have to go through the process of obtaining the proper permits. Zoning laws protect homeowners and cover issues such as the size of setbacks (distance between buildings and property lines), the height of buildings and occupancy. State and local building codes deal primarily with life and safety issues (insulation, smoke detectors, plumbing, electrical wiring, etc.) In order to satisfy these regulations you must submit information showing the project complies with the laws. When plans do not conform they are sent to the Zoning Board of Appeals. There the homeowner, accompanied by an architect or attorney, presents his case at a public hearing.
